It lasted a long long time until a really had the guts to push the send button. There are some moments in our lifes when a small click is the final thing that makes the difference. I finally decided to run for president of aiesec international for the next term.
Throughout the last few weeks I was running through a quite challenging self discovery process. Let me share some of the thoughts that went through my head...
AI?, strategic thinking skills, far away, what happens to my friends in Austria?, unique chance, risk?, take it, too old?, about a quarter of my life consumed and probably a tenth lived – so why not?, why not PAI?, too selfish and arrogant, am I the right leader for this organization?, what is your vision Peter?, will I be able to share it?, will I be qualified?, knowledge, passion, connection, sadness, loneliness, vision, believe, risk, feelings, emotions, spirit, love, do it – JUST DO ITIn the end I believe that we as individuals are very often lacking the final step: Being afraid to fail an exam and therefore missing a life-changing conference, thinking that we are to weak and running away, thinking the girl doesn't like us and letting her go home with this random striker, not applying because of insecurity, saying no and dreaming yes.... We are so close to succeed but the last 1% that is missing we are so much afraid of. We are lacking the final "click"...
I had a nice chat with mate some days ago - maybe it's as well the culture of extreme self-reflection that AIESEC has at the moment. A culture were you question everything you do, question your identity, your actions, your thoughts... Don't get me wrong - nothing bad about it. What we just need to make sure that we have a culture of self-reflection, not a culture of doubts and not at all a culture of indifference. Self reflection should lead us to the point where we are more secure about who we actually are - that doesnt mean that we all the time are 100% sure where we go... but it is the first step...
Let's not be afraid of ourselves, let's not be afraid of the consequences. Why shouldnt we take risks? Why shouldnt we fuck something up? Whatever the outcome might be, we have learned something...

i really enjoyed reading the part about self-reflection, i really believe it is true, we should start not making ourselves more insecure but secure through our thoughts and reflection and through answering the questions that arouse in life...so good you went far enough to be sure of what you do ;). babsi
